introducing +nine, a series for my little MORPHINE, where I invite artists to share nine songs from their personal, deep home listening sessions. 

this week highlights nine picks from the sinister underground courtesy of Watashi, an electronic music producer/ DJ based in Bangalore, India. jamming with bands in the sprawling Indian cities he inhabited growing up through the good ol' teen years, Watashi's writhing metal, punk-rock ethos bleeds on and over from his long, sleek hair and strictly dark-coloured dressing to now the digital sound architecture he creates. 

inclined towards dark soundscapes, Watashi finds comfort in the tension and eeriness lurking in the rough-edged spaces between drum and bass, techno and breaks. with disruptive textures and static electric noise for ambience, his productions and mixes steer these unsettling elements towards an organised sense of calm that is oddly satisfying. for +nine,  he's prioritised his choices, each song reflecting a texture of sound. low-end bass, gritty, grimy rock, the mood is pensive and ghostly.
