‘Sleck Dust’ Dyslecta on Nerve Collect

Run by locals Identified Patient and Gamma Intel, Amsterdam’s Nerve Collect imprint has become a prime dealer of some of the wilder, punchier cuts of bass-doused electronics, seemingly sourced from the dark and smoky trenches of the nether. The label’s latest release comes from rising UK producer Dyslecta, who delivers five pleasurable concoctions made with prominent musical ingredients (fervent techno, splintered breaks, buoyant dub) and copious amounts of murk and sleaze. In other words, the new Sleck Dust EP is rife with unholy infestations. The vivid curdles of black and green on the record cover, designed by Nina van den Berg, project visions of an ogre’s moss-choked swamp after sunset, building anticipation for what lies within. As for its contents, the standout “Tongues of Besiok” features brooding pads that twist in serpentine motion over clashing sniper-esque bleeps and distorted moans. Another highlight, “Fracas,” plunges headfirst into a vortex of low-end rumbles and mischievous swirls of jacking drums, packed tightly enough to keep the body twitching long after the track comes to an end.
